Bournemouth to Weymouth needs no change. South Western Railway trains run straight through, make eight stops along the way and take about an hour; the quickest do it in 50 minutes.
On the weekday timetable we checked there were 34 departures from Bournemouth, the first at 06:06 and the last at 23:25, so for most of the day the next train is rarely more than 40 minutes off. Between 10:06 and 16:25 they settle into a regular pattern of roughly six and 26 minutes past each hour, which makes it easy to turn up at Bournemouth station without having looked anything up.
Early and late the rhythm is looser. Before nine the departures were 06:06, 06:40, 07:07, 07:47, 08:04 and 08:49, so a commuter-hour start needs a glance at the times. In the evening the service thins out after the 21:25: the latest two trains we found left at 22:25 and 23:25, an hour apart.
The spread between 50 minutes and an hour is the difference between the quicker and slower runs on the same line, so if ten minutes matters to you, check the journey time of the particular train before you choose it.
Driving is roughly a match for the train here: 38 miles by the A35, which takes about an hour. With no change to make and trains this frequent, the choice comes down to whether you want the car once you are in Weymouth.
From Weymouth station it is just under 900 metres to St Mary Street, about twelve minutes on foot, so you can be in the centre of town within a quarter of an hour of stepping off the train.
Journey times and changes below come from the rail and bus timetables for Tuesday 1 December 2026. Weekend and holiday timetables differ, so check the day you travel.
